Dragons Add Six Recruits for 2014-15

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling coach Kris Nelson has announced the addition of six recruits for the 2014-15 season.

Signing to continue their academic and athletic careers at MSUM are Nader Abdullatif from Corona, Calif., Paul Cheney of Apple Valley, Minn., Dylan Huttunen of Wadena, Minn., Caleb Radley of Thatcher, Ariz.; Jacob Rukavina of Apple Valley, Minn., and Kristian Vasquez of Riverside, Calif.

“I am excited to get the chance to work with the incoming athletes,” Nelson said. “These individuals will be a great addition to our team and could push for starting roles in their first seasons at MSUM.”

Here is a closer look at the Dragon recruits:
Nader Abdullatif, 285 pounds, Corona, Calif. (John F. Kennedy HS/Mt. San Antonio College)
2013 California Community College State Champion…finished with record of 30-4 in 2013-14 when he earned All-American honors…Mt. Sac Most Valuable Wrestler…was third at California Open Freestyle State Championships…finished with 77-32 record in high school career with 64 pins.

Paul Cheney, 197 pounds, Apple Valley, Minn. (Apple Valley HS)
Finished with 143-22 career record as part of one of the premier programs in Minnesota…Minnesota state champion at 220 pounds as a junior…state runner-up at 220 pounds as a senior when he went 45-2…won the 220-pound division at the Rumble on the REd Tournament in 2013…won the 220-pound division at the Minnesota Christmas tournament once and was runner-up twice.

Dylan Huttunen, 174 pounds, Wadena, Minn. (Sebeka HS)
Two-time Minnesota state tournament qualifier…all-conference honoree…two-time team captain…five-year letterwinner in wrestling…also all-conference in football…also lettered in baseball.

Kristian Vasquez, 133 pounds, Riverside, Calif. (Martin Luther King HS)
Team captain…two-time Riverside County Champion…CIF Champion…CIF Masters Runner-up…two-time state qualifier…finished third at California State High School Championships…Reno Worlds Medalist.

Caleb Radley, 149 pounds, Thatcher, Arizona (Thatcher HS)
Finished with 155-24 career record including 56-4 as a senior…finished third at Arizona state tournament as a senior after placing fifth as a junior…two-time conference champion…three-time Arizona National Team Member…2011-14 Freestyle state champion…National Honor Society Member.

Jacob Rukavina, 165 pounds, Apple Valley, Minn. (Eastview HS)
Three-time Minnesota state tournament qualifier…finished third at 160 pounds as as senior…finished with 141-68 career record with 75 pins…went 104-27 over final three years of career.
