Augustana Cracks Top-10 in Final Top-25 Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – The Augustana wrestling team achieved its highest ranking of the season in the final NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll that was released Thursday night. The Vikings jumped to eighth in the rankings and have all five national qualifiers ranked.

The Vikings made the leap from 24th in the poll released on Feb. 20 all the way to eighth in the final top-25 poll of the year. Augustana made the jump thanks to a fourth-place finish in the Super Region 3 Championships last weekend.

Two-time defending national champion St. Cloud State retained the top position in the poll after claiming the Super Region 3 Championship last weekend. Notre Dame College, Nebraska-Kearney, McKendree and Maryville round out the top-five.

Augustana’s five national qualifiers, Brandon Carroll (125), Tyler Nation (157), Aero Amo (184), Ben Goodwin (197) and Michael Lowman are ranked entering the national tournament.

Carroll enters the rankings at 125 pounds for the first time this season entering the rankings at No. 12. Carroll finished the season with a record of 20-11 and placed second at the Super Region 3 Championships.

Nation ranks ninth at 157 pounds, entering the rankings for the first time this season. Nation concluded the season with a 20-10 record after placing third in the region.

Amo moved up to fourth at 184 pounds after being ranked sixth in the last poll. Amo was the regional champ at 184 and brings a record of 35-7 into the national tournament.

Goodwin was the biggest mover for the Vikings having been unranked all season to finishing the season ranked fourth at 197 pounds. Goodwin was regional champion at 197 with a record of 21-9.

Lowman’s ranking didn’t move as he remained seventh at 285 pounds. Lowman finished as region runner-up and has a record of 26-9.

NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association Poll

The Vikings five national qualifiers will head to Birmingham, Ala. for the Division II Wrestling Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex/Bill Harris Arena on March 10-11. Wrestling will begin on Friday, March 10 at 11 a.m.
